All exercises are documented online so that the person that assigned your service hours can actually verify your work. Upon completion of your service time, you will receive a stamped letter as well as a certificate of completion from We, The World. See sample below.

Please verify with the person that assigned your service that you can receive credit for online service prior to starting.

Online Community Service For Volunteers

The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme is calling for nominations for the UNV Online Volunteering Award 2010, which will be presented to ten online volunteers or teams of online volunteers for their contributions towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). The online collaboration must date back less than two years, and must have been facilitated through the UNV Online Volunteering service. The winners of the award will be announced on International Volunteer Day (IVD), 5 December 2010.

Sample letter below from a PIF volunteer mentor holding her very first PIF event.

Dear Friends,

Just recently, I became a Pass It Forward (PIF) Host (mentor). PIF helped me create my own program called Evelyn’s Acts of Kindness Program which you can now access on my free web page www.aunitedworld.org/evelyn.asp.

The beauty of this type of volunteer work is that it has many benefits. First, I am volunteering my time and doing exactly what I want to be doing, when I want to be doing it. Two, I am receiving immediate gratification from my friends which really makes me feel good. Three, I now have my own personal mentor that is always there to help me accomplish my goals and get what I want. Furthermore, my mentor helps connect me to other like minded people that also want to make a difference under their own terms and conditions.

Introduce yourself and share your story. What inspired you to get involved in the Pass it Forward Movement? Tell why you have decided to host this Pass it Forward Club? Talk about helping another like minded person get what they wanted. What were the results?

Group Introductions

Have everyone introduce themselves and share their story about what inspired them to get involved. Get to know each other – Althought you may be doing completely differenct tasks, you may be spending important time collaborating on how to help make the world a better place.

People Helping People

Ask all your attendees to participate in the 100 Ways To Pass it Forward. Settle on a time and place to meet before you set up the Pass It Forward Club.

In Closing

Thank guests for coming and ask them if they would like you to help them (as their volunteer mentor) find their purpose, passion and put it into action. This exercise will be carried out one-on-one with your guest at another time that is convenient for both people. In the meantime, the guest may want to answer a few questions and send the host their mission statement.

The mission of We, The World is to maximize social change - globally. We are working to awaken a spirit of caring and involvement in the public so that millions of people begin to see themselves as part of one global interdependent community - and actively take part in creating a world that works for all!

Working with an extraordinarily accomplished team, we have begun the process of building an unprecedented critical mass of individuals, organizations and coalitions whose efforts to create a caring world will be highly visible and accessible.

This message is necessary to halt and reverse the "common sense" that has been dominating our planet: look out for yourself no matter what the consequences for other people, animals or our environment.
